Going out in Barcelona is great. The city has an impressive gastronomic offer. Many internationally renowned chefs are Catalan, such as Ferran Adrià or the Roca brothers. Whether Tapas, Paella or modern, creative cuisine. Foodies will have a blast here. But especially in the center there are a lot of tourist traps, with, at best, mediocre food for outrageous prices. I compiled the best restaurants with adequate prices at a glance, so its easy to find a good place near you, wherever you are.

Els 4 Gats

Els 4 Gats (the four cats) ist most famous for being the place where Picasso had his first exhibition. It first opened in 1897 inspired by the Parisian cabaret Le Chat Noir, where Pere Romeu, the founder, worked as a waiter. He wanted to create a similar place in Barcelona, a taverna with affordable food and piano music. Two years later Picasso started frequenting the place and had his first exhibition in the big room. He also created the poster, that is now seen on the menu and has become the symbol of the place. Els 4 Gats was a popular place amongst artists, many famous musicians and architects came here often, among others Antoni Gaudì, who was a regular guest here.

Now a days it still is a very popular restaurant and café, offerering good quality regional food. Staff is very professional, the waiters are dressed with vest and bow tie. The portions are big and the prices are good, considering the amount of food.

La Paradeta

There are now six La Paradeta in Barcelona. The restaurant chain offers good, fresh fish at reasonable prices. At the entrance, there is a stand that reminds of a market stall. Here the catches of the day are presented on ice. Salmon, prawns, calamari, whatever the sea offers. You can choose how much you want one of each kind and how it should be prepared, whether grilled, fried or cooked simply.

The atmosphere is more like a school canteen, but the quality of the fish is good and so are the prices.
